Welcome to the digital project manager. In case you’re wondering what you’re doing here, this is a blog series, 100 Digital Project Management Tips, which will provide project management guidance for the wild west of digital marcomms.
What’s this digital project management guide about?
After working as project manager in the advertising industry more than 7 years experience working across a range of top London agencies including Dare, Wunderman, Lowe and DDB, I’ve delivered everything from video virals to CMS’, flash games to banner ads and eCRM to eCommerce sites for a range of different clients; automotive brands including Land Rover, Volkswagen and Honda; Utility brands including BT, British Gas and Exxon, FMCG brands such as Unilever, and consumer electronics brands including Sony.
Isn’t there loads of digital project management stuff out there?
There’s loads of general project management knowledge and resources out there in the caverns of the interweb, and a lot of it can be directly applied to software development (such as iPhone/iPad apps or large site builds) but can’t be applied so easily to marcomms projects – the everyday campaigns and deliverables of digital project management where standardised processes and methodologies (often because they’re too process heavy) cannot be used.
100 Digital Project Management Tips
And that’s the point of this 100 Digital Project Management Tips blog series; to provide specialist digital project management guidance that draws on existing frameworks such as Prince2, SCRUM and PMP, but that’s engineered to work within the often Wild West of digital marketing and communications, specifically in advertising agencies.
Rather than reading end-to-end, this specialist digital project management guidance series has been written with the intention of being something to dip in and out of, as you approach the creation of a particular piece of documentation, or the managing of a particular part of a project.
I hope you find this series an invaluable guide to becoming a better project manager.
